The MSC is a bowling venue for fifty and older scratch players (male or female). It is an eight game match game format. The only absolute rule is that an entrant must be at least 50 years of age on the day of the tournament. Twelve tournaments are conducted per year, July through June. Entry fee is $90 for Members, $100 for Non-Members, and Membership is $45 per season.
Payout is 1 for 2 (for each age group),same day payout.
After the year end tournament, the MSC recognizes it's player of the year, the super senior player of the year, all star teams and an all star team for the super seniors. The best first year player is awarded the rookie of the year.
History
The MSC was founded in 1994. At the time, there were no tournament venues for scratch bowlers 50 and over. Many of the senior scratch bowlers no longer bowled scratch events. At the urging of John Dorek and Jim Wynne, a meeting was held in the summer of 1994 and the consensus of those present was to form a tournament venue for bowlers over 50. In addition, it decided to add a over 60 bracket. It was determined that players over 60 should be guaranteed a 1 for 2 prize pay out. Eight games was thought to be the ideal number of qualifying games. Also, match play was chosen as the fairest method to use in qualifying, with 40 bonus points going to the winner of a match.
John Dorek became the MSC Director. Under his guidance, 4 tournaments were held during the first season. The 4 events averaged 35 entries. Those numbers were encouraging enough to continue for another season. In the 1995-1996 season, 8 events were scheduled. Average attendance increased to 41. The number of tournaments was increased to 9 per season. As the average attendance increased, a 10th event was added for the 2002-2003 season. Finally, it was decided to go to a 12 tournament season for the 2009-2010 season. An effort was made to retain bowlers as they aged. Some bowlers were not bowling in MSCs as they neared 65. Over time, 2 age brackets were added to the existing 2 brackets. Added was a bracket for 65 through 69 and a bracket for those 70 and older. Like the over 60 bracket, the added brackets were guaranteed a 1 for 2 payout. For the 2017-18 season, the board opted to eliminate the SDS bracket (lack of players in that age range). The age brackets were redefined by the board at a board meeting held at Treasure Island following the 2016-17 year end tournament. The new age ranges are: Regular : 50 thru 59; Super Senior(SS):60 thru 67; and Real Old Guys: 68 and over.
